2018 St Andrew’s Day Ball

2018 St Andrew’s Day Ball

Date: Friday 30th November 2018

Cost: $115 for members, $135 for non-members.

Dress: Highland dress or Black tie

7pm till midnight

This year's ball, as well as celebrating St Andrew's Day, celebrates the 80th anniversary of the St Andrew Society of Western Australia, which was formed with the express purpose of celebrating St Andrew's Day back in 1938.

The 2018 ball will be held in the Grand River Ballroom at the Pan Pacific Hotel at 207 Adelaide Terrace, on the corner of Hill Street.

The evening kicks off with drinks in the ballroom lobby and then once we are all inside, the entertainment starts with a display by the Drums & Pipes of 51 ACU Swan Regiment. A four-course dinner follows, interspersed with speeches to suitably mark the occasion and dances to help make room for the next course! The last hour and a half is all dancing - mostly Scottish reels, but with the occasional 'ballroom dance' for those that don't enjoy kicking their heels up. The drinks package runs through till 11pm.

As always, we want you to get the most out of your evening, which means you are strongly advised to know at least some of the reels. Having someone calling instructions over the band isn't the answer and spending time conducting walk-throughs reduces the number of dances we have time for, so to help you, we will be holding five evening dance classes, leading up to the ball. They will be held on Friday nights, starting at 7:30, so there is plenty of time to get there after work, having had something to eat first! For the dance class dates - see the website.

Accommodation at the Pan Pacific

We always ask the hotels we use for our events for a special deal for those wanting to spend the night there. We have this year too, but it is slightly more complicated than normal! The hotel has offered us a special rate, but only if 10 or more people book.

The discounted rates are:

  • Deluxe room with breakfast, $170 per couple
  • Premier room with breakfast, $180 per couple

We don't think reaching 10 will be a problem, because we usually have at least that many people that don't want to drink & drive.

We suggest that if you want to stay the night, you go ahead and book, notifying them that you are there for the St Andrew Society Ball.
